Ready to marvel inside the astonishing and legendary Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo’s frescoes are all over in a splendid choreography.
The chapel was solemnly inaugurated by Julius II on November 1, 1512. The vault’s iconography is linked to the themes chosen for the side walls, representing the prophecies foreseeing Jesus Christ coming and scenes from the Genesis. All the figures are set in a massive, architectural painted background, your tour guide will go deeply behind the long time Michelangelo spent working on this masterpiece and the conflictual but profitable relationship with the Pope.
Then access St Peter's Basilica (not on Wednesdays due to the Pope audience) and discover the great, massive Basilica, the heart of Catholic Church. In the over 150 years required to complete the Basilica, the most famous artists left their contribution: Raphael, Michelangelo, Giacomo della Porta, Maderno, Bernini and many others.
