What You Can Expect

Val d’Orcia, Chianti, Siena, San Gimignano and Lucca: places just as beautiful as they sound when they roll off your tongue. With Siena as your base for your first night, explore these top Tuscan sites (and more) with your expert guide, enjoying the emerald hills, UNESCO-listed villages and sangiovese wines that collectively give Tuscany its world-class reputation.

From Siena, head northwest out of Tuscany to the region of Liguria. Your tour includes two nights of accommodation here in La Spezia, just south of the Cinque Terre, where five tiny villages cling precariously to the coastline’s sun-scorched cliffs. With a reputation that exceeds its size, the area boasts indescribable scenery with hillsides that tumble down through lush groves before plunging over quietly eroding cliffs. See all this and more on your unforgettable 4-day tour!

Please note:
The listed price does not include a city tax, payable at the time of hotel check-in. The tax is required by the hotels and is not within our control.
Due to a landslide which occurred at the end of September 2012, the famous path “Via dell’Amore” has been closed.

Day 1: Rome – Val d’Orcia (D)
Leave your Rome hotel in the morning and travel north to Tuscany by luxury air-conditioned coach. After roughly two hours on the road, arrive in the hilltop town of Montepulciano in Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia region. With postcard-perfect views over the rolling Chianti hills and a wealth of Renaissance and medieval architecture, it’s hard to believe that many visitors simply come here for the wines! Tour one of the town’s best wine cellars and sample the world-famous red Montepulciano wine alongside a light lunch of cured hams, cheese and salami.

In the afternoon, continue north to the UNESCO-listed town of Pienza for a walk around, admiring its layout that was designed by Pope Pius II in the 14th century.

Check into your hotel in time for dinner, and then spend the rest of your evening at leisure.

Overnight: 4-star Hotel Garden in Siena

Day 2: Siena – San Gimignano – Pisa – La Spezia (B, D)

Enjoy breakfast, and then explore Siena on a walking tour of its old city center – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll through its charming tangle of medieval lanes, taking in the center’s Gothic architecture and seeing top sites like Piazza del Campo and Siena Cathedral.

Leave the town and travel to another walled hilltop town called San Gimignano -- handsomely distinguished with majestic medieval towers. Enjoy some free time here to have lunch and sightsee independently, seeing classic landmarks like the bell tower, Palazzo Comunale or Piazza della Cisterna.

In the afternoon, travel by coach to Pisa and explore Piazza dei Miracoli on a walking tour. This incredible square boasts more attractions than many towns have altogether, and you’ll see them all with your guide. Gaze in awe at the unmistakable Leaning Tower of Pisa, and marvel at the Baptistry, Campo Santo and Duomo di Pisa (Pisa Cathedral).

Wave a fond farewell to Tuscany as you travel west from Pisa to La Spezia – a bustling cruise port and town on the Italian Riviera – and then check into your hotel in time for dinner.

Overnight: 4-star Hotel NH in La Spezia

Day 3: La Spezia – Cinque Terre – La Spezia (B, D)
After an early breakfast, leave La Spezia by boat and cruise around the stunning west Liguarian coastline to the villages of the Cinque Terre. With the company of your guide, you will visit this magnificent area. The 5 Terre card (own expense) covers all public transport around the five villages of the Cinque Terre, including the shuttle buses, trains and public lifts.

Admire the picturesque cliff-side fishing villages, each with their own distinct personalities. Touring the coast line by boat, you will have the possibility to admire this amazing landscape from the seaside. In the event of rough sea, the visit will be done partly by coach and partly by train. During the tour, the boat will reach Portovenere, Vernaza and Monterosso. Your will be able to explore these villages at your leisure.

Meet your guide at the pre-arranged time in Riomaggiore, and then return to La Spezia by train. Enjoy dinner in your hotel and spend the rest of your evening at leisure.

Overnight: 4-star Hotel NH in La Spezia

DAY 4 : La Spezia - Carrara Marble Caves - Monecarlo di Lucca - Rome (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, the tour will take you to Carrara for a visit of the impressive marble quarries carved deep into the mountain. This is where Michelangelo took the raw material to create his superb masterpieces. By visiting the quarry museum you will admire ancient tools, some sculptures and the quarryman’s house. Continue to Montecarlo di Lucca, a lovely town located on the hills around Lucca.

This territory is ideal for the production of top quality wine and extra virgin olive oil. We will stop and visit a farmhouse where the owners will have you taste delicious Tuscan food specialties, from olive oil to cheese, from bread to wine and of course pasta, which you will taste with different wines.

Proceed to Rome and arrival in the evening.
