Healesville Sanctuary General Entry Ticket

Gain entry into the Healesville Sanctuary, an animal refuge crawling with creatures that are all native to Australia. Among the many family-friendly activities to do here: come face to face with an iconic (and usually shy) platypus, meet the veterinarians who help rehabilitate the animals, stroll through an aviary filled with parrots, and observe dingoes up close. Want to know how you can help endangered animals? Visit the Fighting Extinction Headquarters to see how you can make a difference.

What You Can Expect

Gain entry into the sanctuary and let the wild world of Oz open up to you. Set in a natural bushland environment, Healesville Sanctuary is lined with paths that lead to areas where you can spy animals like dingoes, wombats, wallabies, kangaroos, and more than 200 different species of birds in a natural environment.

Don't miss one of the most popular shows called Spirits in the Sky. In this flight arena, you get a close-up look at native parrots, birds of prey and other majestic birds.

As for one of the more surprising discoveries here: Healesville was the first place in Australia to successfully breed a platypus in captivity (way back in 1943). Say hi to the duck-billed mammals at a popular riverside exhibit.
You'll also get a chance to learn about how the sanctuary staff works together to (responsibly) breed rare animals, and what we can all do to help save creatures that are under the threat of extinction. As you roam the grounds, chat with the veterinarians who help rescue and care for all these creatures.

Please note: Healesville Sanctuary is in the final stages of completing their new exhibit, Kangaroo Country that is due to open in late December 2017! One of the final stages is moving the kangaroos into their new home. Both the Kangaroo Island kangaroos and the red kangaroo families will be moving from their temporary home near Badger Creek and hopping in to their new permanent home, Kangaroo Country. This move will be happening between November 8 – December 20, 2017. As you can image this takes a bit of time to move the kangaroos, along with allowing them time to get settled in before the exhibit opens! If you are visiting Healesville Sanctuary during this time you may not see a kangaroo as you would. We recommend instead that you visit Healesville Sanctuary’s wallabies, along their Woodlands Track where are lots of cute Wallaby joeys for you to spot too! Healesville Sanctuary thanks you for your understanding, and look forward to welcoming you!
