About Cozumel

This beautiful island was lunched as an international tourist destination more than 50 years ago, when scuba divers and beachgoers discovered its crystal clear waters and its picturesque village by the sea, San Miguel. Today, the island has grown up, with world-class hotels , restaurants and tourist attractions. But at the heart, its's still the same cozumel, with friendly people, beautiful views, and the blue waters of the Caribbean lapping at its shores.

Cozumel Attractions

This beautiful island was launched as an international tourist destination more than 50 years ago when scuba divers and beachgoers discovered its crystal clear waters and its picturesque village by the sea, San Miguel. Today, the island has grown up with world-class hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions. But at the heart, its's still the same Cozumel with friendly people, beautiful views, and the blue waters of the Caribbean lapping at its shores.

San Miguel still retains all the show-paced charm of a seaside Mexican village, but now getting to Cozumel and staying here is easier than ever. Visitors can dip their toes in the ocean less than an hour after arriving at Cozumel's International Airport. Or, they can make the 30-minute trip from the mainland's Playa del Carmen on a fast, air-conditioned ferry that runs from early in the morning until late at night. The Cozumel cruise industry is the number 1 cruise port in the world welcoming more than 2 million passengers each year.

Thanks in part to its bustling economy and low unemployment rate, Cozumel is a safe, clean and beautiful destination. No matter where you are staying here definitely make time to tour the island with the a variety of tours and adventure excursions in Cozumel.

Diving aside, visitors to Cozumel can laze on a tranquil beach at the leeward coast or take a cross-island trip to the rugged eastern shoreline that has miles of unspoiled, ivory-white beaches. Deep-sea fishing and snorkeling tours are good in the waters around Cozumel, and there are several adventure cruises. Other options include a horseback jungle trek, a visit to San Gervasio (the island's most important archaeological site) or a variety of excursions to the mainland.

TIPS

Checking-in : Rooms are generally available at 3.pm. Don't lose any of your vacation time! Go to the front desk and ask where you can change, put on your bathing suit, leave your baggage in the care of the bellboys and enjoy the beach or swimming pool!

Local Assistance: Olympus Tours has an office on the island and has assigned representatives in the major hotels for you, and he/she will be available to offer any assistance you may require during your vacation.

Public Transportation : The most common way to move around on the island is with a taxi, however it is very popular among younger crowds to rent a motorcycle for a day or two. This has prove to be a lot of fun, but we recommend you to exercise caution when doing so to avoid any accidents.

Water: We are sure you have been warned many times before not to drink the water in Mexico, but that is just a myth. In fact, Cozumel's hotels have purified water systems.

Medical Care : Good medical assistance is available on the island. Your Olympus Tours representative or your hotel concierge will gladly provide you with the phone number of a local doctor or hospital. In some hotels, doctors are available on the property or on call.

Money : Banks offer the best exchange rates if you have time to stand in line. Otherwise, you can go to any exchange bureau (Casa de cambio ), and they usually give you an exchange rate slightly higher than the banks but are faster and easier. Dollars, traveler's checks and major credit cards are widely accepted in Cozumel.

Telephone : The best options to make a long distance phone call to the U.S. is from a public telephone called TELMEX. You may also purchase a calling card where you see the sign "Tarjetas Ladatel". A $10 card will give you approximately 5-7 minutes to talk. Also, there are several long distances offices both in the hotel zone and downtown. Look for a "Larga Distancia" (long distance) sign. Most hotels offers long distance service through their switchboards, however this method can be quite costly. Double-check the hotel rate before making a phone call from your room.

If someone needs to call you from the U.S., tell them to dial (011)(52)+ (987) + the 7 digit local phone number
